Self-Reliance for life

Our goal in life is not to just get by, or even to be like, keep up with, or be better than others. Our goal is more noble than that. It is to become like Jesus Christ. This requires more than just effort or working hard our ‘self.’ It requires focused effort, ‘relying’ on God for his direction.  This is self-reliance: Improving oneself, while relying on God for help and direction. Nephi did not “build the ship after the manner of men, but…after the manner which the Lord had shown [him].” (1 Nephi 18:2)  This is the pattern for building and improving our lives.
